Tsiknopempti

Tsiknopempti is the Thursday of the second week of the Triodion. It is considered as "preparation" for the great fast of Lent, it is customary on this day to freely consume large quantities of meat. The name "Tsiknopempti" came from the "tsikna" that produces meat when grilled, because of the -necessary for the taste- fat it must have. According to tradition, all households have to sniff so that the smells from the kitchen exorcise the evil eye and bring people and joy to the house! Every corner of Greece has its own customs for Tkinkopempti.
