Step by Step Instructions
- Step 1: First, make the bread. Pour the water in a saucepan, together with the milk, olive oil and spices, and let it all heat up a bit, until lukewarm. Remove the saucepan from the heat and mix in the yeast. Mix well, until the yeast dissolves before setting it aside.
- Step 2: Put the egg in a bowl and beat it gently with a whisk, until there aren't any lumps of egg white left.
- Step 3: Place the flour, walnuts and salt in a large bowl. Mix well and add the yeast mixture and the egg. Start kneading, until the dough becomes nice and soft. You might need to add some more water.
- Step 4: Divide the dough into two parts and shape them into loaves. Place the loaves in 2 rectangular cake tins after you have oiled them. Carve the surface of the loaves and cover them with a towel. Leave the cake tins with the dough in a warm environment, until the loaves double in size.
- Step 5: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 1 hour, until the dough becomes crispy outside, but remains soft inside. The bread should be light and come easily away from the sides of the cake tin. Remove the bread from the oven and leave to cool on a cooling rack.
- Step 6: Enjoy it with all meals. When the bread has cooled, don't forget to wrap it in a kitchen towel.
