Product Description
The Vranas Estate is a limited reserve single varietal olive oil with exceptionally low acidity, produced exclusively for GAEA from hand-picked olives that are "cold-pressed" immediately after harvesting in a privately owned mill. The "Agrielia" (wild olive) variety, which is used to produce this olive oil is unique to the northeast Aegean Sea and one of the most sought after cultivars of Lesvos, an island recognized since ancient times as one of the greatest olive oil producing territories in Greece. Part of the proceeds from the sale of this olive oil goes for the support of the Vranas Olive Press Museum, which iws located within the estate. Taste: harmonious and elegant, delicate in the tones of ripely fruity. It has a balanced bitter and pungent content closing with a tomato leaf and greenly fruity aftertaste. Aroma: excellent overall sensation; tomato leaf, vigourous and persistent, dominate, followed by greenly fruity sensation. Weaker sensations of apple, freshly mown grass, green and ripely fruity add refinement and complexity. Pairing Suggestions: salads, grilled meat or fish, pasta, soups and sweets. Excellent for dressing on top of raw vegetables and drizzling cooked dishes.

Meet the producer: GAEA
Gaea was founded in 1995. Our name didn’t come about by accident; in ancient Greek mythology, Gaea was Mother Earth—a symbol of fertility and the goodness of the earth. As such, our vision has been to introduce the world to the benefits of the Greek Mediterranean diet by combining exquisite Greek products based on olive oil with our penchant for tradition and simplicity. Gaea is much more than elegantly-packaged wholesome foods and fine ingredients. It is a genuine philosophy of life, at the core of which is a deep appreciation for nature. We’ve always favoured non-aggresive harvesting over large volumes and high yields. And although we invest heavily in research and employ cutting-edge technology, we never stray too much from time-honoured practices. Our goal is to become international ambassadors not just of top-quality olive oil products, but of a better, healthier, more fulfilling way of eating—and living.

Visit the region: Lesvos

Lesvos is an island of ancient historical interest - an island which has been conquered by many different populations. It was originally inhabited around 3200-2400 BC and in 1100 BC it was colonized by the Aeolians. In the years that followed, it was occupied by Romans, Byzantines and finally by the Turks until 1912, the year when Lesvos was reunited with Greece. Lesvos is situated in the northern Aegean Sea and it is the third largest island of Greece. Its archaeological sites, impressive and dominant Byzantine and Venetian castles, the monasteries and the churches but also the traditional villages, all reveal the island’s history throughout the years. Lesvos can proudly boast about its glorious mountains, valleys, sandy bays and beaches, hot springs and the most impressive “Petrified Forest” which is a must-see for every nature-lover visiting this exquisite island.
