Product History
Homer gives us a vivid description of how Alkinoos, the king of Phaeacians, “kept in golden craters [...] wine made from barley (beer)“. The roots of Greek brewing are lost in the mists of time, and our producers strive to give it a fresh breath and the distinct aroma of Greece.

Nissos Beer

It’s all because of love! For Alex Kouris, it all started from a strong desire of change. A change in his way of life and also his career. Advisor to numerous business and institutional leaders, he had carried out professional projects in the areas of Food, Beverage and Tourism around the world when he met his partner in life travel journalist Maya Tsoclis , discovered Tinos through her eyes and decided to make their dream come true. The Cyclades Microbrewery on Tinos was started from zero in 2012, in the midst of Greece’s financial crisis by Alexandros and Maya. A couple of months later, Elina Dallas joined the shareholders of our company.

The Cyclades constitute the most famous group of islands of the Aegean Sea. The blue sea and the white-washed Cycladic houses, the beaches, the steep rocks, the volcanic soil, the naked landscapes, the bays adorned with fishing-boats with their fishermen often seen mending their nets after a hefty catch. Then there are the traditional island songs which invite you to dance to their characteristic rhythm, the 'screaming' seagulls overhead and other waterfowl, the archaeological sites, the beautifully decorated terraces and stone walls. The visitor is awe-struck by the magical sunsets, the vineyards and the olive trees which all together compose the austere, simple and at the same time breathtaking Cycladic scenery. The history of the Cycladic islands dates back to the Prehistoric era. The Proto- Cycladic Civilization was developed in the 3rd millennium BC along with the Proto-Minoan Civilization in Crete and the Proto-Hellenic Civilization in mainland Greece. Since ancient times, the Cycladic islands formed a channel for the expansion of trade and culture. The Cycladic islands are: Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Donousa, Iraklia, Thirasia, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Koyfonisia, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Serifos, Sikinos, Sifnos, Syros, Schoinoysa, Tinos and Folegandros.
