Product Description

Thyme is a tenacious evergreen shrub. It has a powerful intoxicating fragrance and is closely knit to the traditional cooking aromas wafting out of Greek kitchens throughout the centuries. Its uses are both culinary and medicinal but thyme also has ornamental uses mostly as a fragrant flowerbed hedge. It grows on arid soil throughout Greece and flowers in the summertime.

Since ancient times, it has been hailed as a powerful antiseptic and tonic with numerous health benefits. The ancient Greeks used it in the baths as a disinfectant and appeased the gods by burning it as incense at their temples, while the Romans scented their bathwater with it to boost their vigor and energy. Today, thyme is one of the Greek countryside’s most widely used aromatic herbs. Thyme infusions stave off colds, reduce fevers, combat common flu symptoms, ease intestinal problems, and soothe skin infections. Thyme facilitates digestion and calms lower abdomen spasms. Its uses, however, do not stop to its healing properties. It is a culinary staple in all kitchens around Greece and the Mediterranean good-naturedly adding its mintiness and lemony freshness to recipes.

Pure Natura brings you thyme that is organic and hand-harvested in Heraklion, Crete. It is dried and packaged with extra care to ensure that its precious volatile compounds remain unaltered. Intensely aromatic as only thyme from Crete could be, it is here to greet you with its Greek credentials thyme after thyme.

How To Enjoy
Season your pasta, pies, meatballs, and sauces with thyme: they've never tasted better. Rub a small amount of "Terra Ferea" on crumbled bits of feta cheese, drizzle some olive oil over the whole, and serve it on slightly toasted sourdough bread. Heaven!

Product History

Gathering herbs has been a Greek habit since ancient times, given their use as a raw material in medicine, perfumery, fabric painting and the kitchen. From Centaur Chiron of Greek mythology to the father of medicine, Hippocrates, and then to Dioskourides, who set the foundations of botanology, the already known use of herbs continued extensively during Christianity and developed more in the Middle Ages, while nowadays the interest in the use of aromatic and pharmaceutical herbs remains undiminished.
